Increasing health equity
Our multi-faceted programming addresses health disparities within the Black community by providing prevention services and wellness education. We focus on serving under-represented and under-served groups in both St. Louis and Illinois.
Our programs
As a proudly Black-led organization, the Community Wellness Project is focused on filling in the gaps in healthcare for our Black and LGBTQIA+ neighbors. Our multi-faceted programming, prevention services and wellness education serves people who face risks and barriers to high-quality healthcare and other support services.

EmpowerHER
Providing Black and African-American women with accessible HIV prevention education and products, HIV and STI testing, and other prevention resources.

Gurlz Like Us
A framework for transgender women to share their lived experiences as a means of recognizing and valuing their social and cultural resilience.

Project O.W.N.I.T.
Reducing Black MSM’s (Black Men who have Sex with Men) risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV infection and increase testing to detect and treat sexually transmitted infection (STIs).
African American AIDS
Response Act
A special fund to support programs that help prevent HIV transmission and ensure HIV treatment access within the African American community.
Ryan White
The Ryan White Transitional Grant Areas fund our free support services for eligible people living with HIV/AIDS in St. Louis.
Femme Closet
A free closet of femme clothing to help instill confidence and create safety for members of the trans community.
Block by Block
A door-to-door research and education initiative to equip community members to respond effectively to overdose events.
Gun Safety
Providing comprehensive education on firearm safety, including the distribution and instruction on the use of gun locks, gun safes, and cable locks.
Project CHAT
A youth-focused program to reduce
crime among at-risk youth ages 13 – 24.
RIG Program
Providing education on condom use, safer sex practices, and HIV prevention strategies for MSM (men who have sex with men).
